When you visit Monarch Family Dental of Westminster, you will see, hear, and experience a range of tools that are probably going to be new to you and a little unfamiliar. For some, the unknown can present certain anxieties, and at Monarch, our team understands this. Intraoral cameras are nothing to worry about, they cause no pain or discomfort, and their primary aim is to help us examine your mouth as closely as we can.
What Is an Intraoral Camera?
An intraoral camera is a specialist tool that a dental professional will use to examine a patient’s mouth. To many, it can look like a giant pen, but it has a special camera that captures high-resolution images and footage, showing the findings on a monitor that can usually be seen by Dr. Jorge Rojas, his team, and the patient.
It is compact, lightweight, and can be used to take images of a patient’s gums, teeth, and other parts of the mouth. It is capable of reaching parts of the mouth that cannot otherwise be seen by Dr. Rojas’s eye alone. It can be used to diagnose dental issues, such as tooth damage, periodontal disease, and tooth decay. It is also invaluable for the tracking of the progress of a patient’s oral hygiene and overall wellbeing.
How intraoral cameras benefit us all
There are lots of reasons why intraoral cameras are particularly useful; some of these include:
For the Patient
When Dr. Rojas uses an intraoral camera, you too have the ability to see what they are seeing. They can show you clear, colorful images, and they will typically show you any issues while discussing them with you.
It allows patients to learn about their own mouths and oral health by seeing and understanding more clearly what is happening and what actions may need to be taken.
Intraoral cameras can help dental professionals more easily relay what is happening in a patient’s mouth, far greater than if they were simply using a mouth mirror or x-ray.
For Dr. Jorge Rojas
Intraoral cameras come with a range of impressive features, putting modern technology at Dr. Rojas’s fingertips, literally.
The head of the camera can rotate up to 90 degrees; it comes with LED lighting and a powerful zoom, which in some intraoral cameras can be zoomed up to 100x.
The level of detail this offers dental professionals is incredible, and it helps to support the work they do with a very precise level of accuracy.
Images can be quickly and easily attached to patient records, and this makes the tracking of any developments in a patient’s mouth virtually effortless.
For the Insurance Companies
If you need to make a claim with your dental plan for treatment completed, your dental care team can send these high-resolution images to your insurer to show proof of your condition and support the treatment recommendation made by Dr. Rojas.
Images are instantly ready to send, saving time and helping any treatment run as smoothly as possible, without delay.
How are these different from x-rays?
Intraoral cameras and the images they take are similar to dental x-rays. They can show Dr. Rojas professional specific aspects of a patient’s mouth that cannot otherwise be seen by sight alone. However, unlike an x-ray that shows the interior of a tooth, an intraoral camera will show images of the exterior of a tooth.
