What is Zoom Whitening?
Zoom Whitening is a bleaching process to lighten the discoloration of enamel and dentin on your teeth. This process is becoming increasingly popular across the globe, and more and more people are choosing this as an option for whiter, healthier-looking teeth.
How does Zoom Whitening work?
At Monarch Family Dental of Westminster, the Zoom whitening procedure uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp to accelerate the bleaching process, and it activates the 25 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening. While the hydrogen peroxide is breaking down, the process becomes oxygenated, helping to clean the enamel and dentin. The bleach attacks stains on the teeth but doesn’t change the structure of the tooth.
The gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions of light activation for a total treatment time of around 45 minutes. Lastly, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride gel is applied to the teeth. You can be in and out of the dentist’s office in about an hour.
Preparation for the procedure
When booking a Zoom whitening session, you need to book a regular teeth-cleaning appointment. This helps your teeth respond best to the whitening treatment. The cleaning removes any surface stains or plaque on your teeth, and during the exam crowns or fillings will be addressed.
How often can Zoom Whitening be done?
Every patient’s needs are different, but typically once a year. For the most part, dentists have recommended that Zoom whitening treatments should be done annually, but, depending on the health of your teeth, a touch-up could be done every six months. However, your dentist will inform you about what is right for you.
What to do after a Zoom Whitening treatment
After your treatment is complete, it is important to know what you can and cannot eat or drink immediately after your procedure. Consuming drinks that stain your teeth or resuming smoking cigarettes or cigars post-procedure is strongly discouraged. Certain foods and drinks can rapidly reverse the effects of the whitening treatment, causing damage to your teeth.
Your dentist will give you a list of food and drinks that are discouraged, and you may also receive whitening toothpaste or a custom-fitted set of whitening trays. You will get everything you need to care for and maintain your new smile.
Is Zoom Whitening bad for your teeth?
Zoom whitening is safe for teeth enamel, and, for the best results, it is recommended to follow your dentist’s after-care instructions. Zoom whitening is safe for your gums, as well, but temporary tooth sensitivity is common after the procedure and nothing to worry about. Whitening your teeth is considered a safe and effective way to get cleaner teeth and a better smile.
